Aoife Gillen
BSc ANMPT CSCS
Strength and Conditioning Coach & Physical Therapist
Aoife joined the DSC Team in October 2015. After graduating from UCD with a Sports Science degree, she interned in multi sports facility in America while undertaking her Strength and Conditioning Qualifications. This is where she first discovered she had a real passion for coaching and was excited by the role good strength work can play in developing athletes capacity to train, perform and stay injury free.
Growing up Aoife always loved sports and by her own admission tried every sport under the sun! But her passion always stayed with Gaelic Football. She represented Wicklow LGFA over the past 10 years and has an All Ireland Junior Medal from 2021. She still plays with her club Bray Emmetts. She credits being able to apply all she has learned as a coach in DSC with managing to stay injury free (to date!) through her football career.
Over the years Aoife has developed an impressive skillset working across the board with one to one with private clients, leading classes, corporate groups, track & field athletes, and team sports. She is fondly referred to as the princess of pain by many of her class groups – with good reason!
She really enjoys coaching beginners, working with first timers and developing their ability to train and giving the a solid start on their training journey, regardless of their age. Wanting to further deepen her knowledge in injury treatment and rehab, she recently qualification as a Neuromuscular Physical Therapy. This now enables her to use her soft tissue and rehab skills to provide a more rounded service to her clients and has only served to make her a better coach aswell.
